Ibeji Figures

Large Yoruba ibeji figures from Nigeria, the female with jutting breasts, the male with anatomy exposed, both wearing sandals, both with linear striations on body and facial features that include bulging eyes, open mouths with carved teeth, scarification markings on cheeks, and vertical caps with geometric designs. Wood with dark brown patina, ochre encrustations, beads, and a metal armband on male. Provenance: Constance McCormick Fearing Collection, Santa Barbara.
