Dan Guéré Mask

Dan Guéré mask from Ivory Coast, the face characterized by both jutting, tubular eyes and thin, slit eyes, a wide, curved nose, open mouth with metal teeth, short, ridged forehead, and four horn and ear-like projections. Traces of kaolin are still visible, there is a nail on top of head, and other metal attachments remain. Provenance: Jack Faxon collection, Birmingham, Michigan.
