Vere Axe

The Vere metalworkers of Nigeria were highly skilled craftsmen whose work combined technical mastery with a distinctive sculptural sensibility. Working in iron as well as copper alloys, they produced tools, weapons, agricultural implements, and objects of ritual significance. Their expertise extended beyond forging to the casting and manipulation of metal, transforming resistant materials into precise and expressive forms. Blacksmiths and metalworkers also possessed specialized social and ritual knowledge, giving their creations significance beyond their practical function.
